The Milford Historical Commission will hold their Annual Open House, Sunday, October 6 at 2 pm in Memorial Hall, 30 School Street. This year we will feature Paul Revere’s life presented by Robert Martello, PH. D. There is so much more to learn about Paul Revere beside his “Midnight Ride.” Dr. Martello lectured in MIT’s history of technology program and served as the Producer for the “Digital History” component of Inventing America, an American history textbook. He published his first book, Midnight Ride, Industrial Dawn: Paul Revere and the Rise of American Enterprise, in the fall 2010. The Museum which has an extensive collection of Civil War artifacts will be opened to visitors. People often say that the museum is one of the best kept secrets in town and they are amazed to see what is on display. Memorial Hall was built in 1884 as a living memorial to honor Civil War soldiers and sailors. This year, being the 150th anniversary of President Lincoln’s famous “Gettysburg Address,” it is even more compelling to visit. It was dedicated to the cause of patriotism with a free public library which was located on the first floor for over 100 years and the Grand Army of the Republic Hall on the second floor. Memorial Hall is on the National Register of Historic Places and not only features Civil War items but also military uniforms from most of the branches of the armed forces, memorabilia from the Milford Hospital, shoe shops and granite industries, maps, town reports, Oak Lily and Ivy yearbooks, research books and maps.
